![]() There was sadness, shock, but most importantly, it was unexpected. To make us enjoy getting to know a new character and then snatch his life away added so much more. Killing Adam off was a dangerous move, but it paid off. If you compared Thomas and Adam, I’d be able to tell you a lot more about Adam and his life thanks to four detailed episodes, than tell you about Thomas – a character who was part of the team for six years and barely took centre stage in a storyline. It was the perfect example of how to develop a character and how to do it well. The best thing about Adam? We got to know so much about him in so little time. Jon Hamm, 52, marries Mad Men co-star Anna Osceola, 35, at show's iconic finale location Working with Jack and Nikki was certainly a challenge for Adam (Jason Wong) on his first day. Scott’s return, the reminder of Thomas dying and Clarissa leaving, even a simple mention of Harry allowed us to see that the show actually remembered Nikki’s past. There were a few elements in ‘Redemption’ that immediately showed us this series was going to be different from the rest. It also featured prisoner Scott Weston – a character from a story back in 2010 that saw Nikki and former colleague Harry trapped in a university while a shooting spree took place. So, what is so different about this year? It’s simple – character development and continuity.Įpisodes one and two saw Nikki and Jack investigate the death of a prison inmate. But in the next series, despite Jack being the centre of the finale episodes after being poisoned, Silent Witness missed a key opportunity to delve deeper into Jack’s past while this character’s life was on the line. Finally, we were discovering more about the Northern Irish character who is loved by many fans. Or ‘Deathmaker’ – a story that explored Jack’s past. A face from the past haunted Nikki at the start of this series (Picture: BBC)

This character appeared as recently as Elvira's House of Mystery #2 (February 1986). Weird War Tales typically featured Death as a skeleton in some sort of military uniform relevant to the era and locality of the war depicted. Blackest Night has resolved this apparent contradiction or ambiguity, with Nekron no longer being referred to as an aspect of death but instead as a construct formed of darkness in response to the emerging light of the emotional spectrum.Ī more traditional version of Death, a skeleton in a bluish or purplish cloak, appeared as a host in such DC titles such as Weird Mystery Tales, House of Secrets, Ghosts, Weird War Tales (including being in the story in issue #94), DC Comics Presents #29, etc. Alternatively, there may be multiple avatars or gods of Death in the DC universe, besides those claiming to be Death. It might be assumed, however, Nekron, the Racer, and the Black Flash are connected to her in some way. Gaiman has denied this, however, and his stories make it clear that Death of the Endless is the ultimate personification of Death. The story stated that all three were equal, representing different aspects of death. In Captain Atom #42 Death appears alongside Black Racer of the New Gods and Nekron (a being embodying the will of "The Black", the solitude and peace death represents from Green Lantern). Other personifications of Death have appeared in the DC Universe. Kat Dennings voices the character in Audible's The Sandman (2019), while Kirby Howell-Baptiste portrays the character in the Netflix series The Sandman (2022). Death was named the fifteenth greatest comic book character by Empire. This irony has helped make Death one of the most popular characters from Sandman. She is pleasant, down-to-earth, perky, and has been a nurturing figure for both incarnations of Dream. She also wears a silver ankh on a chain around her neck, and has a marking similar to the eye of Horus around her right eye. In The Sandman, Death instead appears as an attractive, pale goth girl dressed in casual clothes - often a black top and jeans. Physically, Death is also opposite to the traditional western culture personification of death, the Grim Reaper. Just as her brother's, Dream's, realm/domain is known as "The Dreaming", Death's realm/domain is known as "The Sunless Lands". In the special issue, it is also revealed that Death was known in ancient Greece as Teleute. Evidently, only she seems to remember these encounters. Unlike most personifications of death, she also visits people as they are born, according to Destruction in the Sandman Special: The Song of Orpheus. Like most personifications of death, Death meets with the recently deceased and guides them into their new existence. In the DC Universe continuity, Death is both the end of life and a psychopomp. 2, #8 (August 1989), and was created by Neil Gaiman and Mike Dringenberg. The primary difference is that searing is done before cooking, while a reverse-sear is done after the fact. Check those out for some in-depth deliciousness. If you'd like to know more, we've done a blog on reverse-searing a tomahawk steak and filet mignon. This is going to be a quick bit of information here, and there is a lot that goes into getting things right. We will explain a little about the differences and why we think you should be reverse-searing your steaks at home. We are big fans of reverse-searing steak for a couple reasons, the main one being that our steaks always come out perfect this way. You've probably heard the terms "sear" and "reverse-sear" used a bunch when it comes to cooking steaks. The Best Cooking Method for a Medium-Rare Steak When the steak is at the proper temperature, it will feel similar to that spot on your hand. Simply touch the surface of the steak, then touch the area between your thumb and index finger with your hand loosely open. You can use the palm of your hand to determine when your steak is done. This technique takes practice, but it's also fairly intuitive. You can also get a feel for when a medium-rare steak is at the perfect level of steak doneness by, well, feeling it. These handy tools let you get an accurate temperature reading in seconds so you never have to worry about over or under cooking anything. But usually all you need for the perfect steak is an instant-read thermometer, like our favorite Bearded Butchers design. When you're cooking on a smoker, a barbecue thermometer comes in very handy. We say this a lot, but it bears repeating if you want to cook your meat to the perfect temperature, invest in a high-quality meat thermometer. Rather than try to predict when your steak is the correct level of doneness, you can use few tips to know when it is ready. The good news is that cooking a medium-rare steak is usually a quick process. The length of time it takes to cook a perfect medium rare steak will depend on a number of factors, including the method you use to cook your steak, the temperature you cook your steak at, and the thickness of the steak you are cooking. How Long Do I Cook a Steak for Medium-Rare? This is why overcooked steak is tough and dry. The protein responsible is actin, and when it denatures, muscle fibers become hard and shorten, forcing moisture out of the meat. This process is what changes meat from having a raw texture to a cooked texture.Īt about 150 degrees, another protein begins to denature. At about 122 degrees, the denaturing of myosin is in full effect. Myosin is responsible for contracting of muscles. The process begins at about 104 degrees when myosin begins to denature. In fact, there is a chemical reaction that occurs right around 135 degrees in which certain protein compounds break down that make a steak have better texture and flavor. There is science behind why humans tend to prefer medium-rare steak and it's more than our primal need for meat. ![]() Instead, it's the ideal point between undercooked and ruined. When you cut a medium-rare steak, you'll see that the meat is pinkish on the outside and a deeper red inside, but not so red that it looks like raw beef. A medium-rare steak is juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. There is a reason that medium-rare is the most popular way to cook a steak. We like to live a little on the dangerous side and usually cook our steaks to an internal temperature between 135 and 140 degrees. According to, a minimum internal temperature for beef products is 145 degrees to ensure that potentially harmful bacteria and other nasty things won't grow in your meat and make you sick. A medium steak will measure at 140 or above, while anything below 130 is going to be rare. Medium-rare is defined by the United States Department of Food and Agriculture as beef with an internal temperature between 130 and 135 degrees. ![]() We'll explain why medium-rare steak temp is ideal and also give you some tips to help hit the perfect internal temperature each time you cook so that you get consistent results. It might seem funny or even over the top, but there are actual reasons that medium-rare is considered to be the optimal temperature for steak. You might see the look of disgust on another person's face, the shocked puzzlement of why anyone would ever order an overcooked steak. Some strong opinions can come out when you're at a restaurant and someone at the table orders a well-done steak. ![]() Shortly after the separation in 2014, it became known in the public domain that Atkinson was dating the much younger film actress Louise Ford.īefore Atkinson and Ford were cast together in Quartermaine’s Terms in 2013, the actress was in a relationship with English comedian, James Acaster.
